Daffodil Day on FRIDAY 25th AUGUST is one of the few fundraisers for charities during the year which we get behind and fully support so this coming Friday we are giving all the children something yellow and all children may dress or wear something yellow and we ask they bring a gold coin donation to school.
The money raised by schools in the past has helped to bring the Sun-Smart Accreditation programme to our region, support patients and families going through cancer as well as fund much needed research and cancer prevention programmes in our community. Westshore School has been a recipient of the special grants available. They have provided sports uniform, hats, a sunshade over the sandpit area, a sports marquee, a large umbrella and pohutukawa shade trees.
Westshore School is Sun-Smart Accredited School.
-deliver programmes to our students about the importance of protection against the sun
-introduced the current uniform – shirts that cover the shoulders and have collars, wide brim hats
-supply students with sun cream during the summer months
-make sure those who don’t have hats keep in shaded areas when outside
Much of what we do at school has been due to the programmes and assistance given by the Cancer Foundation.
We do hope the Westshore School community gets behind this very important event this Friday and we look forward to seeing a sea of yellow around the playground.
